The project
The Cruise Apartment is the renovation of a 104 m² apartment on the fourth floor of a 1920s building in the Prati district of Rome. FiumeArchitecture reworked the home for a young family of four, taking cues from the interior of a ship.
The apartment faces in one direction only, so the design places an open living space at its centre. This connects the private rooms and draws daylight deep into the plan.
Original patterned cement tiles, salvaged from the larger apartment that existed before, were laid again as carpets that mark out different areas. A restored family chandelier inspired new branch-like wall lights, and the original windows were kept.

A glazed shower enclosure beside the bathroom.

Living room shelving beneath the sculpted ceiling.

The kitchen and living space linked by a wide glazed opening.

The entrance, with checkerboard tiles leading into the living space.

A bedroom with restored patterned floor tiles.

Built-in white storage along the living room wall.

Living space with timber floors and integrated shelving.
