A starting point for
your pay conversation.
Benchmarks are a guide, not guaranteed offers. Compare the range with your responsibilities, experience, benefits and current job adverts.
Compare the training as well as the pay.
For a Level 6 apprenticeship, the salary is one part of the offer. Read the benchmark alongside the work you will do, the training arrangement and the support available in practice. A higher figure does not tell you whether those arrangements suit you.
Get the study and supervision arrangements clear.
- Which provider and programme is the role linked to, and what are its entry requirements?
- How are taught sessions, study time and practice work planned together?
- Who will supervise your work and review your progress?
- Which project tasks will you begin with, and how can your responsibility develop?
- When is pay reviewed, and what evidence or milestones inform that discussion?
Use a question you can take into the interview.
“Could you talk me through a typical week, including study time, the project work I would support and who would review it? I would also like to understand how progression and pay reviews are agreed.”
Compare offers using the same headings: pay, hours, travel, study arrangements, supervision and review points. Ask for unclear arrangements to be explained in writing before you decide. These questions help you assess an offer; the published figures remain a benchmark, not a guaranteed starting salary.
