About
About Rixon Architecture.
Rixon Architecture is a small Cambridge practice specialising in retrofit and low-energy design. James Rixon founded it in 2016 to make existing buildings fit for the future, and the practice also designs low-carbon new buildings for homeowners and commercial clients.
The practice works fabric first and is a signatory of the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge. As Certified Passive House Designers and retrofit coordinators, the team plans improvements in a sensible order, so that each step makes a home warmer, healthier and lower carbon without ruling out the next one.
Services run from bespoke retrofit reports, air-tightness evaluation and retrofit strategies through Planning and Building Regulations consents to Passivhaus design, embodied and whole-life carbon calculations and on-site project management. Clients can work with the practice on part or all of a project.
James is also a co-founder and director of the Cambridge Retrofit Hub, a community benefit society that guides homeowners through a home energy retrofit from design to completion.
