A derelict Edwardian department store in Brixton restored and extended as Squire & Partners' studio and a collection of public-facing creative spaces.

About Squire & Partners.
Founded by Michael Squire in 1976, Squire & Partners works across architecture, interior design and masterplanning. Its projects range from bespoke fit-outs to large urban developments.
The practice works from The Department Store in Brixton, a building it owns, redesigned and developed, and continues to manage. Its own workplace brings together the studio's interests in design, making and the life of the surrounding neighbourhood.
In-house illustration, computer visualisation and model-making support the design process, helping teams explore ideas and communicate proposals at different scales.

Studio life combines design work with shared learning and social activity. The practice describes support for architectural studies, an education team and an annual office trip. Team events include football, softball and yoga. Its sustainability working group brings representatives from design teams together for training, CPD and project reviews.

Navigating Architecture: Chris Hartiss Reflects on Career, Challenges, and Change
From holding zero on the measuring tape to the hero of Chelsea Barracks. I was lucky enough to spend an hour having a great chat with Chris about his career, thoughts on architecture as well as advice for those in the industry. Chris has had key leadership roles on major redevelopment projects including Chelsea Barracks, The Shell Centre and One Tower Bridge. If only Chris took Tracy's tat back in the book shop it may have been a different story!
