A derelict Edwardian department store in Brixton restored and extended as Squire & Partners' studio and a collection of public-facing creative spaces.

The story
The story behind the work.
The practice revealed the original fabric of the 1906 building and used its accumulated layers of history to guide contemporary interventions, rather than erasing them.
Workspaces and event rooms sit alongside a coffee roastery, record shop, post office, restaurant and bar. Restored shopfronts and active ground-floor uses reconnect the building with Brixton's high street.
