Coolington Barn
Clare Nash Architecture · United Kingdom
Projects / Built project
An unusual curved barn was converted into an energy-efficient home while retaining the character of its conservation-area setting.
The story
A young couple asked Clare Nash Architecture to assess the curved Northamptonshire barn before purchase and then guide its conversion through a sensitive conservation-area planning context.
The design keeps the existing openings, strengthens the curved outer wall and retains the original clay tiles. Triple glazing, insulation, an air-source heat pump and MVHR support a low-energy home organised around a glazed hallway and four bedrooms.
