The place
Seattle, Washington, USA
The owners of Boomerang House wanted a place to make art and spend time with family, friends and nature. DeForest Architects responded with a plan that bends into a hillside and directs the main spaces towards Lake Washington and Mount Rainier.
A family room anchors one end of the house and a multi-purpose studio anchors the other. The route between them gives the long plan a clear rhythm, while the change in direction creates a sheltered place beside the water.

The stair rises beside artwork and a roof light
Large sliding glass doors open the living spaces to a patio spanning the width of the house. Timber ceilings and carefully aligned openings draw the eye through the interior towards the landscape, making the transition between the rooms and terrace an important part of daily use.
Timber surfaces, large openings and a carefully framed entrance give the house a consistent material character from its landscaped approach to the lakeside rooms. Interior design by Pulp Design Studios and landscape design by Allworth Design sit alongside the architecture, with construction by Toth Construction.
