The story
The story behind the work.
Chancery House began as the Chancery Lane Safe Deposit in 1885. After wartime damage and several generations of office extensions, the building had become a series of dark, disconnected spaces by the time The Office Group, now Fora, acquired it in 2019.
dMFK reworked the entrance, ground-floor structure, basements and circulation to reconnect the building and bring daylight deeper into the plan. Flexible work settings, a cafe, fitness studio, courtyards and a roof terrace support different patterns of focus, meeting and shared work. Norm Architects led the interiors as part of the wider project team.
The completed 172,000 sq ft retrofit achieved WELL Platinum and BREEAM Excellent. dMFK also records a 77.5% reduction in embodied carbon against a best-practice new-build comparison.
