The story behind the work.
Glasgow Queen Street Station was redeveloped as part of the Edinburgh to Glasgow electrification programme. Removing obstructive buildings reopened the James Carswell Victorian train shed to the city, while a glass façade, gold-toned soffit and light-filled concourse strengthen the station's connection to George Square.
Longer platforms, clearer circulation and step-free improvements support a major increase in passenger capacity. BDP records the £120m project as completed in 2021 for Transport Scotland, with architecture, engineering, design management, interiors, lighting and sustainability delivered at practice level.
