The story
Studio Sutton converted a former neoclassical bank in Stockholm into a 29,000 sq ft workplace with the welcome and shared amenities of a hotel.
Developed for Spaces and Vasaparken, the project keeps the character of the existing building visible while creating a stronger sequence of arrival, meeting, work and hospitality spaces. The result treats the workplace as a destination rather than a conventional office.
In Gamla Stan, the design retains the former bank’s grand staircase, arched windows and ornate interiors. A business club extends across three floors, with café, co-working and quiet work settings arranged around daylight and views of the old city.
A brass reception desk sits within the marble entrance hall. Oak joinery, deep green finishes and brass details connect the contemporary workplace to the historic fabric, while the vaulted basement provides meeting suites and a self-service kitchen. The practice provided concept and vision, layouts and test fits, architecture, interior design, furniture specification and design monitoring.
