Projects / Project
A future public park on Seoul's Han River, organised as a tidal landscape, arts destination and 1.2-kilometre skywalk.
The story
Nodeul Island, also called Soundscape, is Heatherwick Studio's proposal to transform an artificial island in central Seoul into a public park. The scheme was selected after exhibitions, consultation, a public vote and a design-jury presentation.
At river level, an arts centre and public beach sit within planting that strengthens the existing banks. The landscape rises to an events podium and a 1.2-kilometre skywalk formed from a chain of elevated islets, creating places for performance, rest and views across the Han River.
The official studio page records the appointment in 2024 and describes this as the studio's first South Korean project to enter construction, with public opening anticipated in 2027. It is therefore presented as future work, not as a completed park.
