Projects / Project
An unbuilt Southwark workplace proposal retaining a 1960s structure beneath a hybrid steel and CLT frame and rooftop urban forest.
The story
Roots in the Sky reuses existing foundations and the first two storeys of a 1960s building. A lightweight hybrid steel and CLT frame is designed to carry adaptable 40,000 sq ft floorplates and an urban forest with 1,300 tonnes of soil.
Symmetrys provides structural and civil engineering. Rainwater attenuation and reuse respond to the constrained site, while the official project page and award record continue to describe the scheme through its unbuilt proposal state.
