Cooee Retrofit
Cooee Architecture · Palmerston, Ngunnawal Country, Australia
Projects / Built project
A 60-year-old grain silo became compact, off-grid farmstay accommodation connected to the landscape and the farm's working life.
The story
Cooee Architecture transformed a fifth-generation farming family's redundant grain silo into a distinctive visitor stay, organising the entry, stair and windows as a sequence of changing views and experiences.
The completed 46.5 square metre building is powered by off-grid solar and battery storage. It reuses the original silo and slab, combines passive design and insulation with heat-recovery ventilation, and connects a compact interior to its rural Wiradjuri Country setting.
