The story behind the work.
York House was a dark, inward-looking 1980s office between King's Cross and Angel. The Office Group, now Fora, appointed dMFK to turn the vacant building into a flexible workplace with a clearer street presence, deeper daylight and a more generous relationship with the public realm.
A five-storey entrance extension, built in cross-laminated timber and wrapped in an angled brick lattice, reshapes arrival from Pentonville Road. Inside, a double-height reception exposes the original concrete frame and connects shared work settings, meeting rooms and cafe space.
The 67,500 sq ft building supports teams ranging from two to 2,000 people, with roof terraces and varied amenity spaces. The project received a RIBA London Award and the Brick Awards Innovation Prize.
