Vasari

Autodesk’s discontinued conceptual design preview. What it was, why it still appears in specs, and what replaced it.

Knowledge

What is Vasari?

Project Vasari was Autodesk’s free technology preview for conceptual design: quick massing models with early-stage energy and environmental analysis built in. It gave a generation of designers their first taste of analysis-led concept work.

Autodesk has since discontinued it, folding the massing into Revit’s conceptual tools and the analysis into Autodesk Forma. Vasari still turns up in older portfolios and the occasional legacy job spec, which is why it keeps its place here.

If you are building early-stage design skills today, the modern route is Forma for analysis and your authoring tool of choice for massing.

  • A preview that mattered

Vasari was Autodesk’s free technology preview for conceptual massing and early energy analysis.

  • Discontinued, not dead

It has been discontinued, and its ideas live on in Revit’s conceptual tools and Autodesk Forma.

  • A legacy mention

You will meet it in older portfolios and legacy job specs rather than in current practice.
