The story
The story behind the work.
The former nineteenth-century orphanage, later hospital and Imperial War Museum archive, was reworked by EPR into its London home. The design recovers the Victorian building's character while adding new openings and two zinc-clad extensions.
The workplace keeps historic floors, brickwork and a cantilevered stone stair, adds a social hub, wellness room, green terraces and cycle facilities, and uses biophilia to support collaborative work.
Material reuse, hybrid steel and timber extensions, fabric-first upgrades, mixed-mode ventilation and all-electric systems support the net-zero-in-operation ambition. The scheme achieved BREEAM Excellent and embodies WELL Standards.
