Projects / Project
ZOOM architecten and Callebaut architecten have restored Hotel Dumont in Antwerp and added a round garden pavilion, creating a literary meeting place for Flanders.

The project
The neo-Gothic Hotel Dumont was restored as offices and a meeting centre for Literatuur Vlaanderen and Iedereen Leest. A later rear extension was removed, freeing the inner courtyard as a public literary garden reached from both north and south.
Inside the historic house, freestanding volumes hold the lift, toilets, kitchen and workstations, kept apart from the original fabric. In the garden, a new circular pavilion wraps around a two-storey bookcase, with meeting rooms on the ground floor and a reading room below.
