The story
The story behind the work.
The site had evolved from a stable yard serving Montrose House into a garage and coach works before falling into disrepair. Its Grade II lodge houses and historic cottage called for a mixed-use response that could retain employment space while repairing the wider setting.
Le Lay Architects developed five new homes, refurbished the seventeenth-century cottage and provided 140 m² of commercial space. Richmond adopted the scheme as an example of back-land and mews development, and it received a Daily Mail Four Star Award for Best Development in Surrey in 2006.
