The brief

The question behind the work.

Olivia Marshall's thesis reworks a town-centre site in Shrewsbury that lost its purpose after public functions moved away and retail declined.

The proposal reimagines a Victorian department store with offices for start-ups, flexible retail, housing and community-focused public space. It is shaped by the town's social and physical context and the creative identity of the Original Shrewsbury movement.

The project explores how a modern intervention can respond sensitively to a historic high street through urban identity, memory, form and programme.
