Retrofit of Two Mews Houses in Knightsbridge
Two rare surviving mews houses are adapted for family life through a fabric-first retrofit that preserves their external appearance and historic stable features.

The story
The story behind the work.
The Pavilion Road buildings began as stable and coach houses serving the townhouses of Sloane Street. Investigation uncovered original cobbles, carriage and stall divisions and a ventilation riser, giving the refurbishment a clear record of the site's working history.
Le Lay Architects redesigned the pair as homes for two small families without changing the external facade. The retrofit lifted the roofs to insert insulation and remade the garage doors as thermally efficient walls with full-size studies behind, combining improved performance with the preservation of the mews character.
