About

About KPF.

Our Practice KPF is a comprehensive architectural practice that specializes in designing buildings of various types and sizes, across all regions of the world. Our portfolio includes iconic skyscrapers, impressive spans, diverse programs, and innovative forms. Our driving goal is to find the most intelligent solution for each project. We believe that exceptional design emerges from an open-minded exploration, free from preconceptions or stylistic constraints.

Purpose Our buildings go beyond their physical presence and make meaningful contributions to the built environment. Our design aspirations encompass optimizing functionality, enhancing urban contexts, promoting sustainability, advancing commercial success, and creating beautiful structures that reflect and inspire the communities they serve. We collaborate closely with our clients to balance these objectives and harness the benefits of multidisciplinary thinking.

Collaboration To support our goals, our firm operates as a collaborative community of diverse talents. Our best designs arise when individuals come together, challenging and inspiring one another to develop new techniques and explore fresh expressions. Each project contributes to the broader practice while addressing its unique set of requirements. In our studios, young architects passionate about their craft work alongside seasoned professionals, blending experience with innovative ideas.

One Firm With over 700 staff members led by 34 principals, we have offices in New York, London, San Francisco, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Seoul, Berlin, and Singapore. Regular meetings among the principals ensure the alignment of our philosophy and the sharing of knowledge. Staff exchange between offices is a regular practice, allowing projects to leverage expertise from multiple locations and benefit from the firm's extensive knowledge base.

Process An integral part of our approach is collaborating with clients and actively listening to their needs. Our definition of "client" extends beyond a single entity and includes owners, users, and public officials. We engage these stakeholders through a comparative method, exploring and evaluating alternative solutions. This open-source approach encourages broad discussion and participation.

Craft We prioritize quality in every aspect of our projects, from conceptualization to completion, from the initial "big idea" to the smallest detail. We believe that an ambitious concept can only succeed when it is thoughtfully composed and impeccably executed. With a focus on the art and science of architecture, we strive for a high level of detail to enhance our designs in terms of both aesthetic appeal and practical functionality. Our commitment to architectural craft is exemplified by the KPF Making exhibit and the accompanying book Design in Detail, which showcase our dedication to craftsmanship across projects of various scales.

Wellness Our aim is to create healthy environments that enhance physical, cognitive, and social well-being, both internally and externally. Drawing on research and practical application, we consider space, form, color, and texture to design for wellness at all scales, from the urban realm to individual interior spaces. Central to our approach is the integration of nature with architecture, incorporating considerations such as air quality, access to natural light, and the incorporation of landscapes. We strive to create spaces that foster activity, community, and connections while promoting a sense of balance and harmony.
