1. Best career advice you’ve ever received?
↳ My university professor, Dr. Nick Dunn, told me that I shouldn’t feel obligated to do my Part III. You don’t need to become an Architect – you can use the degree and diploma, which teach you so many valuable skills, in other ways.
2. One mistake early-career professionals should avoid?
↳ Speaking to a recruiter too soon. Companies usually use recruiters for senior roles, not graduates. Instead, reach out directly – it’ll save you time and frustration.
3. What’s your advice for any job seekers?
↳ Qualify external recruitment consultants – do they know the industry? Do they have certifications? A strong track record? And don’t judge firms by their websites – meet them in person. You never know, it could be your dream job.
4. Most common mistake job seekers make?
↳ Not being upfront about salary expectations or remote work. Don’t go through the whole process only to ask for WFH 4 days a week at the end – it usually doesn’t end well.
5. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a recruiter?
↳ You can have a great influence over someone’s career, however, you can also be a hindrance.
6. What’s a major warning sign you’ve noticed with other recruitment agencies?
↳ Some unethical agencies send your CV to firms without your consent just to secure an introduction fee. For them, it’s all about being the first to make the introduction, with little regard for your approval – which is scary. That is the sad reality, so please be careful who you’re working with.
