    Office Ten is a London-based architecture practice dedicated to the quiet power of preservation and renewal. We give new life to existing spaces by tackling complex challenges across architecture and beyond.

    Since 2017, we’ve honed an approach that maximises existing space and adapts it to contemporary living. Guided by the belief that functionality is key to a good life, we focus solely on what’s necessary to minimise environmental impact and create diverse spatial experiences.

    Drawing on our native Norwegian and Japanese traditions, our work combines the natural beauty and strength of raw materials with considered construction techniques and functional layouts. By aligning these elements with the needs of our clients and society at large, we create spaces for a more intentional way of life to unfold.

    Harlesden people, have you ever spotted this interesting house with big roof openings on Sellons Avenue? 🪟

    It was redesigned by Erika Suzuki and Anders Strand Luhr, the architects behind @o10_arch.

    Erika, who is Japanese 🇯🇵 , and Anders, who is Norwegian 🇳🇴, are about to launch their long-term project, Greenest House 🏡. They told me all about it for Turn The Light On.

    In order to fix problems we need to get things done. But beforehand we do need to talk to each other and figure out the best way forward.

    We are of course, very busy working to get ready for the UK launch of #greenesthouse  , but what other things are we working on in the office right now?

    Here are some renders of of the planned refurbishment of an apartment in Westminster. It is situated in a grade II listed Georgian townhouse close to Paddington.

    At the top floor we are working out how to bring in the sunlight through various apertures and windows. This option takes inspiration from the Pantheon with soft and round shapes casting glowing discs of light on the interior.

    We are proud to announce that @jawsustain and @agrekabuild are now official partners of the @greenest.house initiative, a pioneering project led by Office Ten Architecture, a London-based practice known for its dedication to the quiet power of preservation and renewal. Office Ten focuses on maximizing existing spaces and adapting them to contemporary living, blending functionality with minimal environmental impact.

    The Greenest House project offers an innovative solution to the UK's housing shortage by upgrading and retrofitting existing terraced homes rather than demolishing them. This approach not only preserves the community fabric but also delivers affordable, energy-efficient housing. With upgrades like enhanced insulation, triple glazing, solar panels, and air-source heat pumps, Greenest House can reduce a home’s space heating demand by up to 90%, drastically cutting carbon emissions and energy bills.

    The project is built around a circular development model, where the value unlocked from redevelopment is reinvested directly into the building. This creates a sustainable cycle of improvement that fosters partnerships with forward-thinking suppliers in sustainable construction.

    The UK is struggling with multiple housing crises: a lack of adequate and affordable homes, inefficient land use, the climate emergency and demolitions that generate avoidable carbon emissions.

    That's why Office Ten Architecture in partnership with Adaptavate, Brouns & Co, Cleveland Steel, EcoDuct, Sisalwool and Ten & Sen, developed the Greenest House, now on display at the     #TimeSpaceExistence  exhibition. Greenest House is a new model for redeveloping existing houses, creating a financially sustainable model for creating environmentally sustainable buildings♻️ The model is designed as a continuous cycle that retains knowledge and improves over time.

    This aprroach promotes better terraced houses by reinvesting into fabric improvements, low-carbon materials and energy-efficient systems, making structures and communities future-proof. In addition, long-term partnerships with suppliers, manufacturers and builders refine knowledge for quality construction, more efficient schedules and skilled tradespeople.
