An internationally recognised architectural practice with studios in London, Tokyo, and Singapore is seeking a Financial Controller to support the firm’s continued growth and global expansion. The practice delivers projects across Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The Role
The practice is seeking a Financial Controller to lead and manage its finance function. This senior position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and plays a key role in supporting financial strategy, operational efficiency, and international financial management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the finance department, currently a team of three, providing oversight, guidance, and professional development.
- Oversee all financial operations including billing, accounts payable and receivable, credit control, payroll coordination, general ledger management, project-based revenue recognition, and month-end close procedures.
- Prepare and present consolidated monthly management accounts, including KPIs, variance analysis, and financial forecasts to senior leadership.
- Manage treasury activities including cash flow management and foreign exchange risk.
- Conduct detailed cash flow analysis to support liquidity management and strategic planning.
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support decision-making at senior management level.
- Monitor and analyse Work in Progress (WIP) in line with industry-specific revenue recognition standards.
- Oversee financial operations of overseas subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with local regulations and group reporting requirements.
- Manage banking relationships and negotiate financial facilities when required.
- Act as the primary finance contact for tax, audit, and payroll, coordinating with external advisors and service providers.
- Prepare and submit UK VAT returns in line with HMRC regulations and support international tax planning strategies.
- Develop and improve financial systems, processes, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.
- Ensure adherence to strict monthly reporting schedules and statutory deadlines.
- Lead and develop the finance team while driving continuous improvements across finance processes.
Essential:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or international equivalent).
- Minimum 5+ years of senior-level experience in a similar financial leadership role.
- Proven experience presenting financial information at board or senior management level.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge across financial and management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, project financial management, and audit.
- Treasury experience including cash management and exposure to foreign exchange and hedging arrangements.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong experience with accounting systems.
- Hands-on approach with the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and process optimisation.

- Experience within architecture, creative, or professional services environments.
