IT Support Specialist

Our San Francisco firm is seeking an IT Support Specialist to join their team. This position is based in the San Francisco office (One Bush Street) located in a historic office building in the heart of the financial district.

As an IT Support Specialist at HOK, you will be responsible for providing technical support to our system users. If you are experienced and enjoy working on a variety of computer equipment, including servers, switchgear, wireless access points, and 3D printers, then this role is for you.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Provide Tier 1 support for a helpdesk system.
• Answer user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operations to resolve problems.
• Oversee the daily performance of computer systems and peripheral equipment.
• Observe system functionality and report errors to supervisor.
• Set up employee equipment including adds, moves, and changes.
• Perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment according to company standards.
• Maintain account and inventory records.
• Read technical manuals and confer with users to diagnose/investigate technology issues.
• Refer major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or managers for service.
• Train users in the proper use of hardware or software.
• Confer with general staff to establish recommendations to supervisor for new systems or modifications.
• Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and provide quality customer service.
• Occasional after-hour and weekend help desk functions.
• Provide Tier 2 support for cell phones, headsets, personal storage devices, and other peripherals.
• Take personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.

Required Skills

• Advanced knowledge of basic PC components.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft-based networking protocols.
• Exposure to basic scripting language.
• Exposure to voice and data telecommunications systems.
• Exposure to remote access technologies for support and office connectivity.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
• Ability to set up and operate a variety of computer equipment.
• Ability to work efficiently, in an organized manner, and with attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively regarding technical matters, both verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

• Technical or Associate’s degree or equivalent in education and experience required.
• 2 years’ experience.
• Experience with an electronic help desk system.
• Certification in Microsoft and/or Cisco technologies is desirable.
