Part II Architectural Assistant at Boutique Residential Studio
Are you a Part II Architectural Assistant who loves the craft of high end residential design and the challenge of working with characterful, historic buildings? This small, design led studio is looking for its very first employee, creating a rare opportunity to work closely with the founding architect and help shape the way the practice grows.
The studio is UK based and specialises in thoughtful, contemporary interventions to listed homes, properties in conservation areas, and carefully detailed new build houses. You will be involved across all stages, from early conversations with clients through to technical drawing and seeing work on site.
You will be working primarily in Vectorworks, on a mix of elegant refurbishments and considered new build projects, taking on real responsibility while still being fully supported to grow.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to concept design, feasibility studies and planning submissions for high end residential projects
- Produce clear, accurate drawings and models in Vectorworks, supported by hand sketching where helpful
- Assist with preparing information for listed building and conservation area applications
- Develop and coordinate technical information for tender and construction, with guidance from the architect
- Help manage day to day project documentation and correspondence
- Attend site visits and client meetings, taking notes and following up actions
- Support the refinement of studio standards, templates and ways of working as the practice grows
Skills and experience
- Part II qualified, with a strong academic portfolio and a genuine interest in residential architecture
- Ideally some UK experience, preferably within bespoke residential or small scale housing
- Working knowledge of Vectorworks, or confidence to learn it quickly if you use similar software
- An eye for detail and a methodical approach to drawing, coordination and documentation
- Comfortable taking initiative, asking questions and learning in a hands on environment
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with a professional, friendly manner
Benefits
- Close one to one mentoring from the founding architect and exposure to all aspects of running a small studio
- Genuine input into design decisions, client presentations and how projects are delivered
- Experience across the full life cycle of projects, from sketches to site
- Opportunity to help define the culture, processes and tools of a growing practice
- Primarily studio based work for collaborative learning, with hybrid working open for discussion as the role develops
If you are ready to grow quickly in a supportive, design led residential studio, apply today with your CV and a concise portfolio.
