A leading AJ100 practice is seeking a Senior Technical Architect to join their team based in Manchester. Working closely with Project Leaders and a wider network of technical specialists, you will play a pivotal role in embedding technical excellence, regulatory compliance and high‑quality delivery across all the practices projects.
This is an opportunity to strengthen technical standards and mentor teams within an award‑winning and B Corp architecture practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the studio’s technical standards, guidance notes and quality processes, ensuring consistently high technical output
- Provide expert advice on Building Regulations, Approved Documents, British Standards, warranty requirements and manufacturer guidance
- Act as a key voice on Building Safety legislation, the duty holder regime, competence frameworks, and HRB Gateway processes
- Deliver specialist technical input in areas such as fire safety, ventilation and overheating, external envelope design, sustainability, MMC and product compliance
- Lead structured technical reviews at key RIBA stages, tracking risks, actions and lessons learned
- Support project delivery through reviewing details, specifications, mock‑ups, commissioning requirements and site inspections
- Champion best‑practice BIM and information management in line with ISO 19650
- Design and deliver CPD, technical masterclasses, training programmes and knowledge‑sharing initiatives
Requirements
- ARB Architect or MCIAT Chartered Technologist with 10+ years’ post‑qualification experience
- Strong background in technical design and construction‑stage delivery for residential‑led projects (RIBA 3–6)
- Expertise in at least two specialist areas (fire safety, envelopes, ventilation, sustainability, MMC)
- Deep knowledge of UK Building Regulations and relevant legislation including the Building Safety Act
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor, influence and communicate clearly.
- Competence aligned with BS 8670/PAS 8671 is highly desirable
