As part of this role, you'll engage in a range of responsibilities that will test and enhance your project management skills. You'll be following established project management processes as defined by organizations like APM, PDCF, PRINCE2, and PMI. You'll initiate projects by assessing feasibility, defining budgets, assembling teams, and allocating resources. A deep understanding of contracts, scope, and internal roles is crucial, and you'll be adept at identifying and addressing scope gaps and deviations.
Your role will involve thorough planning, aligning with client needs, setting goals, defining roles, and creating schedules using tools like Gantt charts. Leadership is key; you'll lead and motivate project teams, including both internal and external stakeholders. Efficient project management is a given, ensuring teams stay on track and within budget. You'll also be responsible for implementing monitoring and control activities to track project progress, managing risks to ensure timely project delivery, and implementing necessary changes throughout the design lifecycle.
Regular reporting of project status to management and clients is essential, as is acting as a strong client interface and decision maker. At the end of each project, you'll evaluate successes and challenges to enhance learning for future projects.
What does it take to excel in this role? You should be a design enthusiast with awareness of industry best practices and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in both English and French is required, along with a high level of interpersonal communication skills. You'll need excellent time management and multitasking abilities, and be proficient in computer applications like Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, CAD, and Revit. A solid understanding of technical drawings and construction methods, especially for retail projects, is vital. While a Design Management/Project Management qualification is desirable, it's not essential. Proven experience in managing all stages of the project design process is a must.
