Sanjana’s design project, ‘Found States: The Poises of Stratford’s Civic Heart’ reimagines Stratford Town Centre as a tabula plena—a site already rich in potential, requiring only thoughtful curation and strategic design to foster a healthier and more inspiring civic future. Embracing the area’s cultural diversity and complexity, the proposal resists conventional top-down masterplanning, instead advocating for civic spaces shaped through collaborative, grounded approaches.
this project supports Newham Council and the Creative Land Trust’s plans for a civic hub embedded in Stratford’s listed municipal buildings—highlighting the tensions and opportunities of access and retrofit.
Partnering with GROW Studios at Alice Billings House, the design proposes a bottom-up, artist-led revitalisation strategy, bringing the existing rich creative networks together in the heart of Stratford.
