Here is Anke’s thesis project- Life: After Life.
‘For centuries, death has cast a long shadow, shrouded in darkness and unspoken taboos. Though time continues to move, it remains a word tiptoed around, a ghost at the family banquet. But what if death wasn’t just an ending, but a catalyst for life?
Imagine a space where mortality isn’t a taboo whisper but a vibrant conversation, where ashes nourish fragrant blooms and laughter mingles with tears celebrating shared memories.
This journey isn’t just about mourning; it’s about metamorphosis.’
Located in Nottingham, 'Life: After Life' is a bereavement center designed as a sanctuary. The program revolves around three key functions: support, procession and legacy.
With this, the project creates a space where mortality is acknowledged compassionately, offering comfort in the face of loss and turning the end of life into a catalyst for continued living.
