Here is Urh's master thesis design for a low-cost renovation of a NGO headquarters in Metelkova, Ljubljana. The project envisions a modern co-working environment within an old military barracks catered to
the needs of the non governmental
organisations, which currently use
the building. This expands their
development potential and opens
their work to the wider public. The
project also designs multi-use spaces
for users of the Metelkova area. Moreover,
due to the organisations’ financial
limitations, the proposal taps into user
participation to create joinery pieces,
partitioning enlarged internal spaces
for adaptive reuse. This follows a strong
existing identity of Metelkova and
creates a wider strategy of future use
of the building. The project creates a new mediator of the area, where the programmatically different sides of Metelkova area meet and intertwine.
