Uran Jerlija is a Part I Architectural Assistant, graduating from Leeds Beckett University in 2019 with a 2:1.
His dissertation, “Architecture and Ideology: The effect of Stalinist ideology on the Soviet architectural language and culture, after the Congress of Soviet Architects, 1937” was nominated for the university dissertation prize.
To add to this, Uran was the Vice President of the university’s architectural societies, playing a pivotal role in the arrangement of external lectures, software tutorials and social events. Uran has 6 months of experience in practice, having spent time with Box Architects in Leeds.
“Uncertain States: An Architectural Manual to Revolution in Berlin” builds on Uran’s research for his dissertation thesis. Through design mechanisms, he devises an urban strategy for the purpose of building and occupying spaces throughout Berlin for the spread of political idea, counter to that of an apathetic German government.
Stemming from a headquarters based in the decommissioned Tempelhof Airport, a radical political party masks its activities behind an aircraft recycling centre, whilst utilising the recycled parts for building material. A mixed range of media was used including AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp and Photoshop.
