Careers at ColladoCollins Architects
ColladoCollins joins Architecture Social to discuss practice life, project exposure, career progression and what candidates should understand before applying.
Since its formation in 2004, ColladoCollins has embraced the challenges of complex mixed-use design to create successful buildings and urban environments. We secure planning permissions through openness, sensitivity and tenacity to produce commercial schemes that are deliverable.
The practice operates across several sectors and through every stage of the design process, combining a strong design ethos with sound technical strength. Unlike many firms who specialise in one particular area, our approach ensures that early designs are properly informed by delivery experience across residential, commercial, mixed-use, heritage, hotel and leisure, office and retail schemes.
"When we work with architects, we like to work collaboratively. With ColladoCollins, it feels like you can trust them, that they are in the trenches with you." James Owen, Mount Anvil
We combine a full understanding of the commercial challenges facing our clients with a sensitive, sustainable approach, ensuring every building fits its surroundings in an environmentally conscious and visually considered way. Our work ranges from highly complex masterplanning to individual residential schemes, and from early planning stages through to practical completion we have delivered more than 100 successful projects for clients in the UK and overseas.
ColladoCollins is a London studio based on Foley Street in Fitzrovia. In January 2024 the practice transitioned to an Employee Owned Trust, giving the whole team a direct stake in its future, and the same year it marked its twentieth anniversary.
The studio offers hybrid and flexible working. Published benefits include a company pension, one month of paid sabbatical after five years, professional membership fees paid by the practice, medical cover, a travel card loan, a day off on your birthday and year-round social events. As an Employee Owned Trust, ColladoCollins shares the rewards of the practice's success with its whole team.
ColladoCollins is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, as stated on the practice's careers page.
ColladoCollins works to seven values, published in full on the practice's website.
Beauty: producing buildings people can enjoy, responding to context and creating a sense of place.
Buildability: designs underpinned by an understanding of what can be delivered, with technical teams contributing from inception to completion.
Leadership: embracing the role of Design Team Leader and balancing specialist inputs with the desired outcome.
Budget: working closely with cost consultants to keep designs viable and balance cost against value.
Time: managing realistic programmes and milestones agreed with clients and the wider team.
Environment: minimising embodied carbon and working towards whole-life net zero, with the right renewables integrated from day one.
Regulation: keeping teams fully apprised of evolving planning policy, space standards, Building Regulations and Building Safety.
ColladoCollins is a London studio of around 23 people with more than twenty years of trading history and a portfolio of complex mixed-use schemes across London, southern England and Dublin. Since January 2024 the practice has been an Employee Owned Trust, so the whole team holds a direct ownership stake in its future. Architects here gain exposure across residential, commercial, later living, hotel and leisure, heritage and retail typologies within a single practice, rather than being limited to one sector. The studio is based on Foley Street in Fitzrovia and works with clients across the UK and internationally.
