Erbar Mattes is a London-based architecture practice established by Demian Erbar and Holger Mattes. Erbar Mattes' work has been recognised through multiple awards and publications, including a RIBA London Award and 'Architect of the Year' at the British Homes Awards in 2023. The practice is specialised in residential projects and committed to the creation of thoughtful and timeless architecture that is firmly rooted in context. Its work seeks to distil and enhance the essential ‘found’ qualities and spirit of a place, creating buildings that are unique and truly belong. With a strong interest in the quality of the built environment and long-term impact of construction, the practice strives to find sustainable solutions through adaptability, retrofit, and low-carbon / low-energy design. The founding partners bring extensive UK and international experience leading the design and construction of highly acclaimed buildings, including the public sector art galleries The Hepworth Wakefield and Turner Contemporary for David Chipperfield, and Brentford Lock West II for Mae, which created 157 high-quality homes and was shortlisted for the 2019 RIBA Neave Brown Award, recognising the UK's best new affordable housing.
