Description

Our approach to architecture strives for a harmonious blend of reason and emotion, strength and delight. We approach projects with care and confidence, confronting challenges directly and thinking innovatively. By breaking down the project brief and meticulously examining its components, we allow the design to organically take shape. We are not easily deterred and refuse to accept "no" as the final answer. We firmly believe that the impact of architecture extends far beyond the physical boundaries of individual buildings, as it has the potential to enhance and enrich lives.

We firmly hold the belief that buildings should be grounded in powerful ideas. These ideas should intelligently and logically respond to functionality and the essence of the surroundings, and their strength should be embedded in the physical form. This way, clients receive the buildings they truly need, while society benefits from the architecture it truly deserves.

The city, a remarkable cultural achievement of humanity, holds great significance to us. We recognize that cities are interconnected systems encompassing transportation, communication, public spaces, and a sense of joy. Our approach involves firmly situating our buildings within their respective contexts, not through mindless repetition, but through thoughtful responses to site, materials, amenities, scale, and culture.

We reject the notion of adhering to a specific architectural style. If we have a distinctive characteristic, it lies in our process rather than a predetermined form. We are functionalists at heart, viewing a well-designed building as an expression of a clear and rational diagram. We are not swayed by fleeting trends or fashions but instead place value on thorough research. We embrace contemporary design as a means of addressing the evolving needs of our changing world.

Values

Making Life Better

We aim for an architecture that is rational and poetic, robust and delightful; we tread carefully and build with conviction; we tackle problems head on and think laterally; we deconstruct a brief and let a design emerge from close examination of the pieces; we don't necessarily take 'no' for an answer; we believe the power of architecture extends much further than the dimensions of individual buildings; we believe architecture is about making life better.

Sense of Place

We believe that buildings should be underpinned by a powerful idea; that the idea should be an intelligent and logical response to functionality and a sense of place; and the power of that idea should be embedded in the built form. That way, clients get the buildings they need and society gets the architecture it deserves.

Materiality, Amenity, Scale and Culture

We believe that the city is one of humanity's most impressive and precious cultural achievements. We also believe that cities are about connections, transport, communications, public spaces and joy. We believe in locating our buildings firmly within their contexts – not as slavish repetition but as a considered response to site, materiality, amenity, scale and culture.

Process Not Form

We do not believe in the value of a house style; if we have a house style it is one of process, not of form. We are functionalists. We believe a good building is an expression of a clear and rational diagram. We are not idly blown by the winds of fashion. We believe in the value of research. We believe in contemporary design for a changing world.
