Alex Sutton is the founder of Studio Sutton, a design-led architecture and interiors studio based in London. He set up the studio in August 2019 at the age of 29, having previously worked at Sevil Peach, and Studio Sutton launched just six months before the pandemic. Alex has since grown it into an international practice, with work delivered across the UK, Europe and the US.
In his conversation with Stephen Drew on the Architecture Social Podcast, Alex talks openly about the reality of starting and running a small practice: losing close to a year of work almost overnight and pivoting to projects in Oslo and Stockholm, the economics and hidden costs of winning work, why better design does not always win, the personal cost of being a founder, hiring and building a small team, and how the profession is adapting to AI.
