About

Chris Williamson is co-founder and Chairman of WW+P Architects (Weston Williamson + Partners), the practice he established in 1985 with Andrew Weston. The two met as architecture students at Leicester Polytechnic and started out working together from a front bedroom. Today WW+P is an award-winning architecture, planning and urban design practice of around 260 people, with studios across four continents.

The practice is best known for transport architecture and city-shaping infrastructure, including London Bridge station, the Crossrail stations and the Melbourne Metro Tunnel, alongside residential, commercial and cultural work. A focus on sustainability, and on getting people out of cars and onto safe, efficient public transport, has run through the studio since its earliest days.

Chris has been closely involved with the RIBA, teaches at the London School of Architecture and is a visiting professor at the University of East London. In this Architecture Social conversation he reflects on building a practice over nearly four decades, what makes a studio a good place to work, and the basics that help early-career architects stand out: genuine enthusiasm, knowing the work, and being a team player. WW+P is now part of 10N, a design collective created by Egis, and in 2025 merged with SvN Architects + Planners.
