East Village Karrinyup is the first residential stage of an $800 million mixed-use activity centre in Perth, developed by Blackburne with AMP and designed by Hames Sharley. The stage delivers 94 residences along the eastern edge of the new Karrinyup Shopping Centre, with outlook over Lake Gwelup, the Perth city skyline and Karrinyup Golf Course.
The design takes a holistic approach, aiming to create places where vibrancy, comfort, security and a sense of home develop organically as residents settle in and make the spaces their own. From the outset, the practice weighed the aspirations and guiding principles of the local and wider context as heavily as the client brief, giving a strong platform for considered ideas. The intent is a development that feels like home at an intimate scale while connecting to a broader sense of place, adding value to its surroundings.
The result balances a diverse residential and retail offer with landscape and view corridors that tie back into the immediate context, underpinned by environmentally responsible design principles. Woven together through the design process, this tapestry of principles gives the precinct the best chance of supporting a community that grows over time.
