Set inside Harry Seidler's Darling Park precinct in Sydney, this workplace for a global mining firm sits within one of three central-core towers, each oriented to a different axis. Hammond Studio arranged the key functions around the tower's three external faces to maximise the client-facing harbour and city views.
In the client zone, the CEO's involvement shaped the material story. He asked for a stone with visible fossils running through it, a fitting reference for a business built on extracting deeper, older material. The chosen 'fossilised' stone now covers the floor and is paired with American Cherrywood wall panelling and joinery, alongside complementary natural stones in the furniture. An illuminated brass rod ceiling, lit from beneath by custom Cherrywood wall lights, anchors the space. Colour is restrained to carpets, fabric wall panels in the meeting rooms and the furniture upholstery, in a sophisticated burgundy that replaces the brighter red used in the brand.
Hammond Studio also rethought the workplace planning. In the previous office, perimeter offices consumed daylight and views, leaving internal staff with neither. Here, every cellular office sits against the core instead, opening the facade up to the wider team and giving every desk equal access to natural light and outlook. The main staff refresh hub flexes between large social gatherings and private four-person booths for collaboration or dining, with power and USB at every gathering point so the same space doubles as informal work setting.
