Modern two-story luxury house with pool, large windows, and lush surroundings.

Windmill Ranches by SDH Studio Architecture + Design

Windmill Ranches by SDH Studio Architecture + Design is a luxury home architecture project shaped around lake views, art and indoor-outdoor living.

The residence works because the dramatic moments are tied to everyday use: entertaining, cooking, dining, retreating, crossing through the house and looking back to the landscape.

Project overview

The house was designed for a family with a strong interest in art and design. Its sloped roof volumes sit lightly above the site, while the double-height living and entertaining spaces open the interior towards the lake.

A wine wall separates the dining and living areas, the kitchen becomes the backdrop to the main entertaining space, and the morning room projects towards the water to strengthen the indoor-outdoor relationship.

What makes the residential design work

  • The roof form gives the house a clear architectural identity.
  • Large openings connect the interior with the lake and landscape.
  • The entertaining spaces are dramatic without losing domestic purpose.
  • The master suite has its own private wing and landscape relationship.
  • The glass bridge turns circulation into part of the experience.

Project details

  • Project size: about 596 sq m.
  • Site size: about 5,481 sq m.
  • Completion: 2020.
  • Building levels: two.
  • Project team: SDH Studio Architecture + Design, with Libertad Rodriguez as architect.

Showcase a built residential project

Architecture Social can feature residential work where the brief, site, design response and project details are clear enough for an architecture audience.

  • Explain who the home was designed for.
  • Show how the project responds to its site.
  • Name the spatial moves that make the design work.
  • Include project scale, completion date and team details.

Architecture Social view

Stephen’s recruiter view is that high-end residential work reads best when the candidate or practice can explain both atmosphere and control. The image should catch attention, but the project story should prove the design judgement.
