Description
Balgowlah Heights House began as an elevated, flat-fronted home across three storeys, where managing proportion and overall building scale was always going to be the central challenge. Hobbs Jamieson Architecture mediated the scale to the street by adding a new single-storey double carport and a covered courtyard, which softened the home's perceived height and rebalanced its mass at the kerb.
The street frontage deliberately responds to the character of the existing dwelling, while the rear and the interiors take a freer approach. A composition of modern, balanced forms shapes the rear elevation and helps the house manage its exposure to the elements from that aspect. Inside, the fitout is crisp and classic, with well-zoned, comfortable spaces that are bold in their texture and material use.
The home sits on a 550 m2 site, with an internal project area of around 350 m2 across three levels, and was completed in 2017.
