By the Bay is a stage two conversion of a modest beach shack on the shores of Jervis Bay, New South Wales, delivered by Hobbs Jamieson Architecture in collaboration with Salt Building Design. The brief asked the practice to complete the main body of the house so that it sat comfortably alongside the previously finished guest wing, holding to a single coherent architectural language across the whole home.
Planning was the focus. The layout was reworked to make the zoning of the house clearer and more legible, and to draw the most from the exceptional coastal light. The reorganised plan responds closely to its beachside setting while keeping the established aesthetic intact.
The finished house is neatly detailed and easy to live in: a light filled, relaxed home that suits its position by the water.
