Enter the Light

Enter the Light is a new single-storey family home in Willoughby, on Sydney's lower north shore. Approved under the complying development code, it was designed and built within 18 months. The plan is organised around the winter sun, drawing warmth and daylight deep into the house while a detailed, closed wall holds privacy along the street. That guarded frontage opens on entry, releasing into large, voluminous rooms that control the light and connect to a series of courtyards threaded through the home. Indoor and outdoor spaces run together, so the interior feels far more expansive than the reserved street elevation suggests. At 280 square metres on a 750 square metre site, it reads as a single contemporary volume of carefully framed light and considered privacy.
