Peace of Mind Technology (POMT) Experience Centre is a 650 square metre fit-out by Hammond Studio inside a heritage-listed boutique office building on York Street, Sydney. The brief traces back to 2009, when two technology engineers founded the consultancy Peace of Mind Technology and set out to build a single facility that could double as workshop, showroom, workplace, gallery and event space, showcasing collaborative technologies, technology-integrated furniture systems, agile working tools and digital artwork drawn from leading manufacturers worldwide.
Hammond Studio's task was to make one space serve all of those functions without sacrificing design quality. The team began by reading the building's structural grid and planning the fit-out around it, leaving every column and structural element exposed and picking it out with lighting or contrasting finishes on the surrounding surfaces. New mechanical and fire services were routed to preserve sightlines to the heritage linings and to keep daylight moving through the skylights and the York Street facade windows.
The result pairs highly integrated technology with the building's heritage features in an old-meets-new relationship, inviting visitors to move through the space and discover the synergy between industrial and technological change.
Completed in 2019 across a single level.
