About

Alfonso Monedero is Head of BIM at Heatherwick Studio in London, where he leads the studio's design technology and digital practice. His focus is embedding BIM and data strategy into the design process without limiting creativity, so that designers face no artistic constraints because of software.

Trained as an architect at IE Universidad in Spain, Alfonso left the country during the 2008 downturn and worked in India and Chile, including as Head of Design at Turner Arquitectos in Santiago, before moving to the UK in 2015. He first worked with Heatherwick Studio as a BIM consultant, then spent time as Studio Design Technology Manager at Woods Bagot, returning to Heatherwick Studio in 2018 to lead BIM across its portfolio of complex international projects.

Beyond the studio, Alfonso advises AEC software teams on product strategy and contributes to industry groups working on open, granular data standards for the built environment. On episode 231 of the Architecture Social Podcast he speaks with Stephen Drew about the evolution of BIM roles, AI in architecture, the value of coding skills, team building and advice for aspiring BIM professionals.
