About

Justin Nicholls is an architect and the founder of Fathom Architects, the London studio he set up in 2016 to solve complex briefs on sensitive sites.

He grew up around building sites in Cornwall, watching the craft of his carpenter father, and went on to study at the University of Bath and the Royal College of Art. Before founding Fathom he spent 11 years at Foster + Partners and more than a decade at Make Architects, which he helped establish.

Justin's approach is built around depth: depth of thinking, complexity, care and collaboration. His work runs from big-picture visioning through to the finest construction detail, drawing on a network of specialists across interior design, laboratory planning, heritage and digital environments. Beyond the studio he is active in architectural education and mentoring, examining at Part 3 and sitting on design review panels in Westminster and Oxford.

He holds a BSc (Hons) and an MA from the Royal College of Art, and is ARB registered, RIBA chartered and a Fellow of the RSA.
