This canopy shapes the entrance of the Experience Center at the high-tech campus in Best and functions as an orientation point in the park-like surroundings of the campus. For this reason, the canopy is thought of as an autonomous sculpture; the space flows around the sculpture on all sides.
The entire construction consists of merely three unique and basic shape elements. In these elements, the supporting structure, junctions, drainage and lighting are all integrated into the essence. The sometimes complicated junctions were researched down to the millimetre in a 3D model, to be reduced to their essence and eventually solved. The 3D model then was used to saw and mill the base material to precision, after which the parts were glued together and finally covered with a 3mm think layer of polyurea coating. The components were transported to the location and were assembled in just a few hours. The perfection of the finishing and junctures of the canopy are close to unique in the traditional field of construction – especially because of the extremely small tolerances and the lightness of the construction.
