About

James Lee Burgess is an ARB-registered architect and the Founding Director of UrbanXR, an augmented reality and mixed reality studio focused on the built environment. He studied architecture at Cardiff University, completed his year out and spent around ten years working in London on social housing and mixed-use projects before relocating to Norfolk.

He founded his own practice in 2019, initially as a traditional architecture studio, and invested early in mixed reality through Microsoft HoloLens 2 on construction sites before moving fully into augmented and mixed reality development. His work spans planning and public consultation, heritage storytelling and the on-site visualisation of proposed schemes, combining an architect's understanding of how people use space with tools such as the Unity game engine and the Immersal visual positioning system. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).
