Open up and let me in is a ground-floor renovation of a two-storey house in Curl Curl, on Sydney's Northern Beaches. The brief from the clients of Hobbs Jamieson Architecture was to modernise the home and strengthen its connection to the rear yard.
The design works around a challenging western orientation, using a considered joinery strategy to widen the sense of space across the 250 square metre dwelling, set on a 500 square metre site. Natural clear finishes set a warm tone indoors, lifted by occasional splashes of colour.
The finished home sits more comfortably with its aspect, opens up more successfully to the outdoor areas, and reads as warmer and more contemporary throughout.
